Evaluating sustainability of sharing economy trade market business models

Abstract


Purpose. Sharing different goods, services among different organizations and customers has started to play an important role in today's economic environment. While in traditional market money taken to gain ownership of a product, sharing economy framework presents the benefit of capturing value with temporary access-rights to a product or service. Due to fundamentally different way of creating and capturing value, the sharing concept benefits are: sustainable use of resources, flexible employment options for contractors, bottom-up self-regulating mechanisms, lower overheads leading to lower prices for consumers, and more closely tailored and customised products for users (Allen & Berg, 2014). The sharing concept oblige organizations to find innovative solutions today thinking about the tomorrow‘s problems. Based on growing sharing economy impact on sustainable development the objective of this paper is to identify and estimate sustainable development indicators of sharing economy trade market business models.

Methodology. This paper integrates logical and systematic analysis of scientific papers. To analyse estimate sustainable development indicators of sharing economy trade market business models there was used case analysis methodology. Paper authors adapted Circles of Sustainability to estimate sustainable development indicators of sharing economy trade market business models.

Results. In this paper, the studies of sustainable development were reviewed and identified the main indicators for sharing economy trade market business models. Research results indicate the sharing economy impact on the organizations economic, environmental and social nature as well. In addition, according to the research results, adapted Circles of Sustainability of sharing economy trade market business models can be applied to the indication of sustainability level of sharing economy organizations.

The theoretical contribution. The analysis of sustainable development of sharing economy trade market business models points to the future research area. Longitudinal research results could provide contributions to theory of sharing economy business models sustainable development.

Practical implications (if applicable). The Circles of Sustainability of sharing economy trade market business models profile template could be assigned as way of developing a more comprehensive understanding of ratio of sharing economy trade market business models sustainability indicators.
